Generally, when we think of the expiration date of things and products that are in our home, we go straight to food and medicine, but perhaps you did not know that there are other things that have an expiration date, not because they spoil but because their shelf life is over.
With the following list you can check your bedroom, bathroom, wardrobe, kitchen and places where you keep other types of objects and know if it is necessary to change or discard some of them.
Over time, pillows of any filling become a home for dust mites and lose their shape, causing neck pain. It is recommended to change them every 2 or 3 years.
Depending on the material from which they are made, it is convenient that you change them every 6 months, since if they are made of cloth they help the formation of fungi, even when you wash them frequently.
Between 1 and 6 months is the recommended time for the use of sponges, cloths or scourers that you use for the body, because they can also develop fungi.
It doesn’t matter if you wash them continuously, the towels develop bacteria that can be harmful to your body, so you should change them in a maximum of 3 years.
We know that when the bristles of the brushes become deformed it is time to change them, more or less after 3 months; but we also recommend that you do it if you had the flu or a contagious disease, to avoid relapses.
6. Hydrogen Peroxide
Some products such as alcohol and hydrogen peroxide do not have a printed expiration date, but it is recommended that you discard it 2 months after opening the bottle of water, since it becomes normal water.
7. Combs and brushes
Brushes and combs should be washed at least once a week and changed once a year; but if they are made from natural materials, you should consider replacing them after 7-10 months of use.
Perfumes and related products may be kept for 3 years if the bottle has not been opened and 2 if it is already in use. The eau de cologne lasts 4 years without opening and 2 once opened.
9. Bottle nipples
You will need to replace them about every month and a half, as they lose their appearance and can crack, causing microbes to form that are impossible to remove.
10. Baby carrier
The plastic, foam and accessories with which they are manufactured have a useful life of between 6 and 10 years. It is not a good idea to buy it second hand, because you really do not know how long it has been in use.
Change them after 1 or 2 years of use, as they lose elasticity and shape, as well as becoming uncomfortable.
If you wear running shoes, after 400 or 500 km they lose their cushioning properties and can cause joint injuries.
Ground spices lose their freshness after 6 months, and their flavor and aroma between 1 and 3 years.
Depending on the type and packaging, it can be kept for 6 to 12 months after being opened.
15. Fire extinguisher
Some fire extinguishers are filled with substances that must be replaced every 3 years, and the physical container must be checked to verify if it does not present damage that could affect its operation.
Power strips generally have a fuse that can be replaced when blown for a longer period of use, but between 1 and 2 years they should be fully checked to rule out physical damage.
17. Household disinfectants
Cleaning products, especially those that disinfect, have an efficiency between 3 and 6 months, since their properties decrease over time.
18. Insect repellants
After 2 years, they lose their properties.
