The world of medicine never ceases to amaze us with its advances and, on this occasion, Dr. Narendra Kaushik, originally from New Delhi, will perform the first uterus transplant surgery in the world on a trans woman.
According to newspaper reports Mirror, the organ will come from a deceased donor or from a woman who has had her uterus removed during the process of becoming a man. If successful, the surgery would pave the way for trans women to have children through in vitro fertilization.
A similar surgery was previously performed on a transgender woman, sadly the patient died months later due to complications with the medical procedure. However, Dr. Kaushik says he is considering various factors to make the surgery a success, and has declined to name the recipient.
Every transgender woman wants to be as feminine as possible, and that includes being a mother. The path to this is a uterus transplant, the same as a kidney or any other transplant.
This is the future. We can’t predict exactly when it will happen, but it will happen very soon. We have our plans and we are very, very optimistic about it.
If the operation is successful, the trans woman could become pregnant through an in vitro fertilization process, because the transplanted uterus cannot be connected to the fallopian tubes, so the operation would not allow the person to get pregnant naturally.
On the other hand, Dr. Kaushik claimed that his clinic, located in central New Delhi, rivals clinics in Bangkok for sex reassignment surgery and even said that his work is so good that 20 percent of His clientele is international, which gives him the security to perform this uterus transplant successfully.
Dr. Kaushik did not reveal the day the transplant will take place, nor did he give details about the surgery. However, he will keep the medical community abreast of developments in the process.
