Mexican figure skater Donovan Carrillo once again surprised with one of his spectacular choreographies during his participation in the Grand Prix Figure Skating America with a routine that pays homage to Mexican wrestling.
After his participation in the 2021 Winter Olympics, the 22-year-old athlete from Jalisco returned to competition at Skate America 2022, an event that is part of the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix series. Donovan Carrillo was born in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. He trained in diving and gymnastics before falling in love with figure skating, which he only started doing after he followed his older sister, Daphne, to a skating rink and started taking lessons because he liked a girl in class.
In 2013, Donovan began skating with the Mexican National Team and made his international debut in 2017. He idolized Spain’s Javier Fernández, the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist, as Javier also hailed from a country where figure skating was not a popular sport.
