The best way to define your body type is to look in the mirror in tight clothing and identify its shape. What stands out the most? The shoulders, the hips, the waist. The measurements are not exact since some of us are more round and others are more oval. Check out the different shapes and remember what clothes made you look better in the past.
HOURGLASS OR FIGURE EIGHT BODY TYPE
In this body type the shoulders are the same width as the hips and a pronounced waist. If you have this body type, here are some tips to look perfect:
- Take advantage of saias that mark your waist and tight-fitting at the hips. A midi saia this season will be ideal for you.
- Try to avoid bright colors and large prints on the bottom and boxy shapes.
- If your waist is very defined, take advantage of it. Any coat or dress that has a belt or bow at the waist will be a good ally.
IF YOUR BODY IS HOURGLASS SHAPED BUT WITH A BUST, HERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL TIPS.
A marked waist, top heavier than the hips are characteristics of this body type. To look perfect:
- Tops with V-necklines that are not too deep or wide. To everything that marks straight lines, give a resounding yes. For example, a thin shawl or a flyaway cardigan with a draped front will make your bust look smaller.
- Yes to jeans with wide sleeves or straight jeans. Yes to cargos and definitely yes to flared or A-line skirts.
- Don’t forget halter tops! They will accentuate your figure and your arms, and your bust will look smaller and balanced with your waist.
TRIANGULAR OR PEAR-SHAPED BODY TYPE.
If you have more volume in the lower part of your silhouette. Or your arms are thin and you have little bust, your body type is like a pear. Here the shoulders are narrower than the hips.
- To look perfect, balance the width of the shoulders with the hips and try to visually lengthen and stylize the body.
- Emphasizing the waist is an excellent alternative. Choose dresses or blusas with bows and incorporate a thin belt to your garments.
- Use plain skirts and pants and prints on top.
- The deep neckline or v-shaped neckline will make you look more stylized.
OVAL, ROUND OR APPLE-SHAPED BODY TYPES
Do you have rounded shoulders, waist and hips? Generally, your arms and legs are slender and you tend to have volume in your abdomen. Don’t despair!
- Avoid very low and very high waists and waists. You should draw attention away from the center of your body.
- Don’t wear tight clothes on top.
- Show off your legs and arms! Make the most of sleeveless skirts and blouses. 3/4 sleeves are a trick to make you look slimmer as they cover the rounder part of your arms.
- Make the most of your bust. Choose garments with a V-neckline that slim your neck and show off your chest. Avoid necklines decorated with rhinestones and boat cut or bare shoulders.
- Say goodbye! to necklaces and overloaded accessories. Avoid anything that adds volume.
- Choose blouses that fall lower than the hips. Tunic style blouses are ideal.
STRAIGHT BODY TYPE
This body type has few curves. YES, I said few, not none. If your body has a rectangle shape, you can afford to create volume in any area. Your waist is not very defined, therefore, you must give the illusion of having it without drawing attention to the lack of it.
- First rule, no details on the waist. Forget about belts, trench coats, waist pockets on jackets or wearing a blouse inside a skirt or pants.
- Empire dresses, tight under the bust and long towards the hips.
- Choose asymmetrical skirts with hemline detailing.
- Choose straight, wide leg or boot leg pants. Look for which one suits you best depending on the length of your legs and hips.
- Avoid coats and dresses with crossover necklines. They will make you look even narrower and squarer.
INVERTED TRIANGLE BODY TYPE
In this body type, the volume is concentrated at the top. The shoulders are wider than the hips. The goal when dressing is to try to balance the curves.
- Choose skirts with volume. Flared or A-line skirts are right for you. You can also use thick fabrics at the bottom, balloon skirts, with boards and even light or bright colors. This will visually offset the volume of your top. If your shoulders are only slightly wider than your hips, you can wear straight skirts.
- Pants can be either skinny jeans or straight, boot cut, elephant leg or oxford style.
- You can wear bold prints on the bottom, such as horizontal stripes and floral prints.
- Avoid ruffles and bold prints on the top.
- Avoid using shoulder pads on your tops and favor dolman and raglan sleeves that de-emphasize the shoulders.
- Choose longer coats and coats and not those that reach the waist so you don’t look boxy.
Beyond your body type, remember that the tone of the garment is essential when we want to hide our areas with more volume. Dark colors always tend to stylize and visually slim us. Use them in the areas where you need to hide your roundness. And remember that if you dress in the same color from head to toe, you will look taller and slimmer! Start practicing and attract all eyes!
